Brunel Merilus

Assistant Principal
Testing and Facilities

Mr. BrunelIt is with great enthusiasm that I join the Val Verde Unified family and the Rancho Verde Administration Team. I have been in education for 20 years and deeply believe in the necessity and importance of training ones mind, body, and soul.

I was born and raised in Placentia California. I attended Cal State University Fullerton obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Business Marketing. I enjoyed working in the business world, however I found the volunteer work I did with local teens to be much more fulfilling. I went back to school and obtained my teaching credential and then my Masters in Educational Administration from Cal State LA. In 1996 I began teaching Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District where I also taught at the high school level. I began my career in Administration in the Fall of 2005. I have had the opportunity to serve as an administrator at both the Middle and High school Levels. I am blessed with a lovely wife, son, and daughter who spur me on to be the best man that I can be. I feel so very fortunate to be able to support and encourage the students and staff at Rancho Verde.

I look forward to giving my all in helping to educate the youth here at Rancho Verde High School so that they may be successful professionally and personally in our ever changing world.

Ms. Dedeaux
I am excited to return home to Rancho Verde High School and serve as an Assistant Principal!

My family and I moved from Los Angeles to Moreno Valley when I was 10 years old. I have been a part of VVUSD since 5th grade. I attended Victoriano Elementary School, Vista Verde Middle School, and Rancho Verde High School. After graduating from RVHS in 1997, I attended Riverside Community College and then transferred to the University of California, Riverside where I graduated in 2002 with a BA in English.

For eleven years, I enjoyed teaching high school English in both the Riverside and Val Verde Unified School Districts. In 2011, I graduated from Chapman University with a MA in Educational Leadership & Administration. Since then, I have served in many leadership capacities including WASC Coordinator, Administrative Designee, District Curriculum Writer, and Reflective Coach for new teachers. In 2015, I left the classroom to serve as an Instructional Coach at Val Verde High School where I focused on building Career Technology Education (CTE) programs and aligning core curriculum courses to CTE Pathways.

Rancho Verde holds a special place in my heart. My husband and I have been together since we were students here. We have two beautiful children who drive me to be my very best. I love this community, I value the many relationships I have with parents and friends in the area, and could not be more thrilled to be a part of a staff that is so dedicated to ensuring that our students thrive. Go Mustangs!

Emily Vazquez

Instructional Coach
Math, Science and CTE

Emily Vazquez is a graduate of the Val Verde District, the district she currently serves.  She attended schools in Val Verde Unified for grades K-12.  Ms. Vazquez moved to Moreno Valley at the age of two.  Her family came to Moreno Valley because her dad was in construction.  The homes by Rainbow Ridge and March Air Force Base were built by her family and named after people she grew up with.  Amongst those streets you will find “Tiffin Court,” named after her family. When she was in high school she began to notice that she enjoyed math and that it was something that came easy to her compared to other subjects.  Unfortunately, she didn’t have many financial opportunities available to her but she was determined to put herself through college so she spent a few years at Riverside Community College where she really found that she had a gift for teaching.  She became a tutor at RCC and helped people of all ages and skill level.  She was then hired to work at RCC’s Math Lab and eventually became the Tutorial Services Supervisor until her first day teaching at her alma mater, Rancho Verde High School, and has been here ever since.  She is a passionate educator with expertise in secondary curriculum development, classroom management, and relationship building.  Her educational background and focus on serving students has led her to a number of volunteer opportunities as well as community and school leadership roles.  Emily is currently serving our district as our Math Instructional Coach at Rancho Verde High School.  In addition, Emily is a question writer for the EADMS bank, BTSA provider, a district lead for fourth courses, a consulting teacher, a club advisor, HP Prime Presenter, and creator of sprout LAB tutoring program offered in our district.  She looks forward to sharing her knowledge and classroom experiences with you, parents, students, and staff..

I returned to Rancho Verde in 2000 to begin teaching English and AVID alongside some of my former teachers. Since returning, I earned my Masters degree in Education from National University, and became a Teacher Consultant for the Inland Area Writing Project at UC Riverside. After 16 years in the classroom, I became an Instructional Coach and am excited to serve the school, district, and community in this new capacity.

I currently live in Perris with my husband, Marcelo and our five-year-old daughter McKenzie, who just began her Val Verde career in the Triple Crown Elementary Dual Language Immersion Program.
