I am excited to serve as the Principal of Rancho Verde High School. I have served as an educator for many years in various capacities and have been a school administrator for the last five years in the Val Verde Unified School District.
I was born in San Francisco, California and grew up in a military family. After high school, I attended the University of California, Berkeley, where I majored in Sociology. I obtained my teaching credential from CSU Hayward and began my teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Richmond, California. From there I moved to southern California and obtained a Masters In Social Work from CSU San Bernardino. I continued to pursue my passion for working in the education within LAUSD. I joined the Val Verde family in 2004 as an alternative education high school teacher. I pursued my doctoral degree from the University of Southern California and graduated with an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in 2011. I went on to serve as an Assistant Principal at Citrus Hill High School before coming to Rancho Verde.
My husband James and I have three amazing and energetic boys, Xavier, Vincent, and Dominic, who are students in our wonderful district. My family drives me to always do my best and brings me joy every day.
I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as the Principal of Rancho Verde High School. We will always continue to focus on our shared purpose to provide the best educational opportunities for all students and prepare them with the tools necessary to be successful in the 21st century world.

Emily Vazquez Instructional Coach Math, Science and CTE

Emily Vazquez is a graduate of the Val Verde District, the district she currently serves. She attended schools in Val Verde Unified for grades K-12. Ms. Vazquez moved to Moreno Valley at the age of two. Her family came to Moreno Valley because her dad was in construction. The homes by Rainbow Ridge and March Air Force Base were built by her family and named after people she grew up with. Amongst those streets you will find “Tiffin Court,” named after her family. When she was in high school she began to notice that she enjoyed math and that it was something that came easy to her compared to other subjects. Unfortunately, she didn’t have many financial opportunities available to her but she was determined to put herself through college so she spent a few years at Riverside Community College where she really found that she had a gift for teaching. She became a tutor at RCC and helped people of all ages and skill level. She was then hired to work at RCC’s Math Lab and eventually became the Tutorial Services Supervisor until her first day teaching at her alma mater, Rancho Verde High School, and has been here ever since. She is a passionate educator with expertise in secondary curriculum development, classroom management, and relationship building. Her educational background and focus on serving students has led her to a number of volunteer opportunities as well as community and school leadership roles. Emily is currently serving our district as our Math Instructional Coach at Rancho Verde High School. In addition, Emily is a question writer for the EADMS bank, BTSA provider, a district lead for fourth courses, a consulting teacher, a club advisor, HP Prime Presenter, and creator of sprout LAB tutoring program offered in our district. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge and classroom experiences with you, parents, students, and staff.

Ashley Rodriguez Instructional Coach English

Ashley Rodriguez is I am proud to have been a part of the Val Verde USD family since fourth grade and have attended Val Verde Elementary, Victoriano Elementary and Rancho Verde High School. After graduating from Rancho in 1996, I went to UCLA and earned a Bachelor's degree in English, while becoming heavily immersed in the Spoken Word poetry scene. Originally pursuing a career in journalism, I became serious about teaching after tutoring young men at a juvenile detention center in Los Angeles. I returned to Rancho Verde in 2000 to begin teaching English and AVID alongside some of my former teachers. Since returning, I earned my Masters degree in Education from National University, and became a Teacher Consultant for the Inland Area Writing Project at UC Riverside. After 16 years in the classroom, I became an Instructional Coach and am excited to serve the school, district, and community in this new capacity.

I currently live in Perris with my husband, Marcelo and our five-year-old daughter McKenzie, who just began her Val Verde career in the Triple Crown Elementary Dual Language Immersion Program.
